Tottenham Hotspur journalist Alasdair Gold has been speaking on a Facebook Live video to discuss all things related to the north London club.

One topic of discussion was Daniel Levy’s ongoing search for his next permanent manager following the sacking of Jose Mourinho in April.

Do you want Ten Hag to become the next Spurs manager?

Spurs saw the 2020/21 campaign out with former midfielder Ryan Mason as the interim manager and he was able to lead his side to a seventh-place finish.

One name who has been reported as a potential candidate for the vacant role is the current Ajax manager, Erik ten Hag.

Discussing Levy’s shortlisted candidates to replace Mourinho, Gold had the following to say on the Eredivisie champion.

He said: “Certainly, I know Erik ten Hag at Ajax is a very strong candidate that Tottenham like as well. And I understand that he also has an interest in coming to Tottenham as well.

“He’s a funny one his situation because obviously, he kind of had that contract extension. And it looked at the time to all intents and purposes, that he was signing a new deal, but the more you looked at it, it seemed like Ajax taking an option up to extend his contract by a year just compensation-wise. And it looks like that’s the case.”

TIF Thoughts on Ten Hag…

According to reports, Ten Hag certainly seems to be among the top candidates for Levy. The Ajax manager recently had his contract with the Amsterdam side extended by an extra year, however, as Gold alludes to, that may have been a tactic used to increase Ajax’s compensation package if Spurs do come calling.

Spurs are currently in the process of rebuilding, which means the new manager is likely going to have to demand serious transfer money to put his stamp on the squad following an underwhelming 2020/21 campaign.

However, we have our concerns as to whether Ten Hag would arrive at Spurs and demand Levy for the transfer funds as he currently manages a club whose record signing is just £20.25m (via Transfermarkt).
