On his latest YouTube video, Tottenham Hotspur journalist Alasdair Gold has been discussing all things related to the north London club.

One topic of discussion was the future of Gareth Bale after his season-long loan came to an end following the conclusion of the 2020/21 campaign.

Do you want Bale back for next season?

Yes

No

No

Since Tottenham’s victory against Leicester City on the final game of the season, Bale has returned to Madrid before joining up with his Wales teammates ahead of this summer’s Euros.

It has been reported Spurs have the first refusal to bring Bale back for another season on the same specifics in terms of his salary as agreed for the 2020/21 campaign.

Discussing Bale’s future at the north London side, the Spurs journalist had the following to say on the matter:

“As I was told, other people have got different information. I was told – and I’ve been told this not too long ago, as well – that Spurs have a first option to bring him back on loan on the same terms.

“It may well be this is a gentleman’s agreement rather than [an] actual written in stone contract thing.

“But for me, bringing him back on the same [terms], about 40% of his wages, which was between £220k/£240k per week, that’s bringing him in almost as the top earner, for someone that can play once a week – that’s a tough call.”

TIF Thoughts on Bale’s future…

Bale has had a turbulent time during his loan spell at Tottenham this campaign. Under Jose Mourinho, the Welsh winger struggled for game time, however, in the minutes he got under Mourinho, he frequently found himself on the scoresheet (via Transfermarkt).

The 31-year-old has refused to comment on his future following the victory against Leicester but reports have suggested Spurs would be open to him returning for another season-long loan.

Whether his physical limitations are worth paying his eye-watering wages is up to Spurs, though you can see from his record of goals per 90 minutes this past campaign that he may still provide the team with a potent threat despite his advancing years.

With Harry Kane’s future hanging in the balance, having a clause such as this could have a big bearing on the makeup of Spurs’ attack in the build-up to next season.
