Image for Tottenham Hotspur: Dean Jones discusses chase for Joachim Andersen

Transfer insider Dean Jones has provided an update when it comes to Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Joachim Andersen.

The defender hasn’t exactly had the best of seasons when it comes to success, with Fulham’s relegation confirmed on Monday night after a defeat to Burnley, but it wasn’t as if the Danish international, on loan from Lyon, didn’t put the effort in along the way.

He averaged 1 tackle, 1.4 interceptions, 5 clearances and 0.4 blocks per game (via WhoScored) for the Whites this season, and it’s those numbers, along with his leadership skills that have seen Tottenham take an interest in him.

Spurs have had quite a few odd players over the years, but can you remember them? Here is the first one, who is this former Tottenham man?

An asking price has been set at a reported £20m, and speaking on the latest edition of Touchline Talk (15:56), Jones claimed that Spurs have in fact looked had him before this season, and that they could be in a position to really make a steal in this window if they could make it happen:

“From what I’ve heard, Tottenham are definitely in pole position to get him. They’ve actually monitored him for quite a long time, at least three years he’s been on their radar and they’ve been considering a move for him and I think that, from what I’m told his performances at Fulham have just convinced them that this is the guy that they need to go for.

“Obviously Tottenham need reinforcements in central defence. He won’t cost too much either really in comparison to what you would pay for some of the other top centre-halves playing in Europe right now.”

TIF Thoughts on Dean Jones’ comments about Tottenham Hotspur and Joachim Andersen

Central defence has reportedly been one of the biggest issues for Spurs heading into this window, and given the state of the club’s finances, £20m is probably about the limit that they could spend

And given Andersen’s glowing reputation that has been around for some time now it certainly does look like they could be onto a winner with the Dane.
