In an exclusive interview with This Is Futbol, former Wigan Athletic and Derby County manager Paul Jewell wants to see Daniel Levy appoint an English manager as Tottenham Hotspur’s next boss.

Levy decided the club needed a change after Jose Mourinho had overseen Spurs crash out of the Europa League at the hands of Dinamo Zagreb as well as losing ground in the race for the top four.

Ryan Mason has been placed in temporary charge until the end of the season and despite winning his first game against Southampton, he was unable to stop Manchester City from winning a fourth successive Carabao Cup.

Speaking on why Levy should look to appoint an English manager this time and how there are a lot of options for Spurs to choose from, Jewell told This is Futbol:

I’m sure there are great managers all around the world but sometimes I do wish we’d look closer to home and give the younger English managers a chance.

There are a lot of terrific English managers out there who are desperate for an opportunity.”

Spurs had been linked with Julian Nagelsmann, however he has decided to join Bayern Munich at the end of the season with the Bundesliga champions paying £21.7 million to land their new manager.

In recent days, Gareth Southgate and Graham Potter have both been linked with the vacant job with the latter earning high praise from Pep Guardiola earlier this season.
