Peterborough United Director of Football Barry Fry has told This Is Futbol that Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers is the ideal candidate to replace Jose Mourinho at Tottenham Hotspur, though he doubts he would make the move.

Spurs sacked Mourinho last week and appointed Ryan Mason as the interim head coach.

He has overseen a win and a loss, beating Southampton in the Premier League and losing to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final.

There have been links with a number of managers, including RB Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann and England manager Gareth Southgate.

Rodgers, 48, has also been linked, with the Leicester boss seen as a viable recruit to take the reins in north London.

Leicester, though, are in fine form this season and currently sit third in the Premier League table.

And it remains to be seen if Rodgers would be willing to take what could be seen as a sideways step to Spurs.

Fry doubts it, but believes that the ex-Liverpool manager would be the ideal appointment for the club.

Speaking exclusively to TIF, he said: “If you was looking around for the manager of Tottenham, you’d say Brendan Rodgers at Leicester is ideal for me. He conducts himself in a fantastic way but why would he leave Leicester?

“Leicester are a very stable club, they’ve backed him ever since he’s been there, they’ve got a new training facility that’s arguably the best in the world so why would he leave that?

“I think at Leicester they will give him the money to strengthen his squad every year and strengthen his team. Why should he leave Leicester for someone like Tottenham?

“Although Tottenham is obviously a much, much bigger club, with much, much bigger history, in saying that, have they got the players? How long would it take him to change it all round? It’s not a five-minute job at Tottenham.”
