Alan Shearer has been speaking on Saturday’s edition of Match of the Day about Tottenham Hotspur’s 3-1 defeat to Leeds United as well as the other games from that day.
After the match, Shearer was asked by Gary Lineker to talk about Harry Kane’s future; the 27-year-old apparently wants to leave Spurs this summer and has made it clear that he wants to win the biggest titles in the game.
Tottenham might not finish this season in the top four, and they are certain to end another season trophyless.
So, you can see why Kane might be thinking it is time to leave, and Shearer provided some advice to Kane.
He said: (30:38) “When I left Blackburn, [we] had a season after we won the title, and then we were nowhere near winning the title and that sort of made my mind up because I wanted to then go on and try to do things.
“If Harry wants an excuse [to leave], then Tottenham and that team are giving him one because they didn’t show up for the [Carabao] Cup final [and] they didn’t show up today.
“If I [were] in his position, I would go to look elsewhere and try and win some trophies.”
Do you think that Shearer is right?
No, he doesn't know what he is talking about
Yes, it is probably time for Harry to move on
TIF Thoughts on Shearer and Kane…
When Shearer left Blackburn, he went to Newcastle, and he failed to win a single trophy while he was on Tyneside, but he did become the club’s record goalscorer.
However, it seems as if he thinks that Kane should be looking to move on from Tottenham and given the reports on how he feels that could happen.
Certainly, it increasingly looks like the England captain could be departing north London in the summer, and it will be interesting to see if he tries and forces a move.
We agree with Shearer that Kane has probably given Spurs everything, and they are nowhere near winning the big trophies, so it might well be time for the two to part ways.
