Ryan Bertrand has had another offer on the table for some time, that is according to former Southampton midfielder Carlton Palmer.

Prior to the announcement that Bertrand would be leaving Southampton this summer, manager Ralph Hasenhuttl confirmed that the club had been in negotiations with the left-back over a new deal.

However, the Saints had no luck and Bertrand is now being linked with a move to FA Cup winners Leicester City, Arsenal and AC Milan.

Would you take Schlupp on a free transfer?

Why not?

Why not?

No thanks!

No thanks!

For Palmer, the likelihood is that the 31-year-old already had better offers on the table and, at that point, an exit was always inevitable.

Speaking exclusively to TIF about the situation, the ex-Southampton player said:

“If you get offered a contract and you’re in talks and negotiations and you don’t sign, there’s only one reason you don’t sign the contract. It’s because you’ve got something better on the table.”

Should Bertrand end up joining Leicester or Arsenal, you would have to question how much game time he is actually going to get.

Leicester have James Justin and Timothy Castagne, who have both played at left-back for the Foxes this season (via WhoScored), while Kieran Tierney continues to be one of Arsenal’s most consistent players.
