Former Sheffield United striker Brian Deane has been sharing his thoughts on Blades midfielder Sander Berge and the possibility of him leaving the Yorkshire club during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, Deane had this to say in regards to recent reports claiming that Berge could leave Bramall Lane this summer for just £12 million after his release clause reportedly dropped down from £40 million due to the club’s relegation, putting Premier League clubs like Arsenal on alert.

Do you think Sheffield United should sell Sander Berge this summer?

He said: “Considering they paid £20m for him, I think that whoever’s negotiated that – I can’t believe it. I can’t believe that would be true.

“I would say the minimum amount should have been what they paid for him.”

The Blades signed Berge back in the 2020 January transfer window from Belgian club KRC Genk for a fee of £20.7 million. Since then, the 23-year-old, who is currently valued at £16.2 million, has gone on to make 32 appearances for Sheffield United in which he has managed to score two goals and provide two assists along the way, prior to their league clash against Newcastle United.

TIF Thoughts on Brain Deane’s comments on Berge and a potential summer exit for him…

Given how the Blades will have to prepare themselves for life in the Championship next season, perhaps selling Berge this summer to anyone that would be willing to pay this reported release clause for him could be a smart move for the club so they could then reinvest that money into other areas of the squad that could give them the best chance of winning promotion back to the top-flight at the first opportunity of doing so, in our view.
