Newcastle United fans have been reacting to the performance of Jonjo Shelvey during their game with Leicester City.

There’s something on the line for both teams in the game, with the Foxes looking to hold onto their place in the top four, whilst Steve Bruce’s men look to strengthen their hold on safety in the Premier League, although Newcastle are in a slightly better position points-wise.

Newcastle's all-time top Premier League goalscorer is Alan Shearer but how many goals did he score for the club?

That doesn’t mean that there’s any room for letting up though at this stage of the season, but that message, at least according to the fans watching on at home, didn’t seem to get across to the midfielder and captain on the night, valued at £11.7m on Transfermarkt, as the Newcastle United fans tore into him for his sloppy display in the opening half with some fans furious at his passing ability, or lack thereof:

“Shelvey offers nowt. It’s a disgrace he’s been picked ahead of Longstaff.”

“Take Shelvey off already”
“Please Steve don’t make me watch Jonjo Shelvey for a minute longer”
“10 seconds in and Jonjo Shelvey has already hoofed the ball to Leicester”
“So glad Shelvey starts so he can get the ball on kick offs and pass it to their goalie”
“Is Shelvey wearing loafers?”
“Shelvey lazy pass, get rid in summer”
“Shelvey is so lax.. He’s infuriating.”
“Shelvey is robbing a living”

Let’s see if his performance can pick up in the second half, because whilst the club’s season might not be totally ‘on the line’ tonight, but at the very least to show that he deserves a place in the team next season.
