A lot of Newcastle United fans have flocked to a post from NUFC 360, which has relayed news from Football Insider regarding Matty Longstaff’s situation.
They claim that the 21-year-old is unhappy at Newcastle and will push for a move away from Tyneside.
Longstaff was handed a new deal in the summer of 2020 and went on to make just five first-team appearances in the whole season.
Therefore, it is not a surprise to these Toon fans that Longstaff wants to leave.
“Not surprised. Ridiculous that he’s barely even been in the squad and Hendrick has played 20+ games.”
“His relationship with the club was over pretty much last season. His contract negotiations soured things on both sides…..let the lad go and use the money elsewhere”
“Not surprised. Bruce literally begged him to sign a new deal last year and hasn’t played him.”
Do you think that Matty Longstaff should leave?
Yes, he won't get a chance under Bruce
No, keep him
Newcastle have many options in central midfield, but the likes of Jeff Hendrick and Matty’s brother Sean all struggled at points during the 2020/21 campaign, but Longstaff still never got a look in.
This post continued to draw in many Toon fans who had their say.
“Don’t blame the kid at all, run for your life Matty”
“Don’t blame him. It’s a joke”
“Don’t blame the lad Joke of a club”
It is clear that this news on Longstaff has not surprised these Toon fans who felt as if the 21-year-old should have been played more this season.
