A lot of Newcastle United fans have flocked to a post from NUFC Gallowgate, which includes footage that has been turned into a GIF from the Toon’s 2-0 defeat to Arsenal at St James’ Park.
The GIF shows Fabian Schar’s red card as he came through the back of Gabriel Martinelli and Mike Dean decided that it was worthy of a sending off.
However, these Toon fans disagree and think that Schar was harshly punished.
“Worst decision yet. Funny how we keep getting these barbaric decisions week in week out atm. Someone desperately wanted us down.”
“Arsenal players were crying all day with any slight contact. Embarrassing.”
“Shocking decision yellow at most”
Do you think this was a red card?
No, not a chance
Yes, it was a bad tackle
Schar had not played for Newcastle since February, and on his return to action, he came on as a substitute but was sent off and if the ban isn’t overturned, he will be unavailable for Newcastle until they play Fulham.
This post continued to draw in Toon fans who had their say.
“No way a red card”
“Not even close”
“And the yellow almiron got for running past ceballos was just as ridiculous.”
“Utter insanity”
“Shocking @FA”
The challenge from Schar was hard, and he did catch Martinelli’s ankle, but it wasn’t two-footed or reckless, so you could argue that it was a harsh red card.
