Marcus Bent has exclusively told This is Futbol that Newcastle would be a great destination for Wilfried Zaha.
The Palace talisman has been linked away from Selhurst Park almost every summer in recent seasons, but has stayed put at Palace despite strong speculation.
Would Gerrard be a good appointment at Crystal Palace?
Yes
No
Zaha came closest to leaving for Everton two years ago, but the Toffees signed Alex Iwobi instead, whilst a potential dream move to Arsenal was prevented by their addition of Nicolas Pepe.
Despite Palace’s bottom-half struggles in the Premier League, Zaha has continued to spearhead their attack with 10 goals and two assists in 26 outings.
The 28-year-old is tied down to a long-term contract but Bent has hinted at a potential move away from south London this window, with St James’ Park a shock destination for the £130,000-per-week winger.
Newcastle are safe following their recent revival, but Ryan Fraser hasn’t performed this season since arriving from Bournemouth, whilst the exciting Allan Saint-Maximin has hinted at a summer exit, meaning attacking reinforcements are likely to be required.
Bent told This is Futbol:
“Zaha has not been that consistent this year, but we know he’s a talent. We spoke about him going to Everton, two years ago Everton would have snapped at the chance, but I don’t think he’s a player they want.
“Newcastle would be a great team to go to. He needs a bigger pedestal to play on and better players around him.”
