Lee Ryder has been speaking on a recent edition of The Chronicle’s Everything is Black & White podcast about all things relating to Newcastle United.

Newcastle's all-time top Premier League goalscorer is Alan Shearer but how many goals did he score for the club?

One of the topics that Ryder spent some time on was Joe Willock and his future after the 21-year-old scored his fifth goal for Newcastle in a 4-2 win for the Magpies on Friday night.

Willock missed the Arsenal match because he was ineligible to play but returned to the starting XI and seized on a mistake from Caglar Soyuncu to score the Toon’s opener and make him Newcastle’s second-top goalscorer in the league this season.

Newcastle want Willock to join the club permanently, but Ryder thinks that the Toon will have a battle on their hands.

He said: (4:35) “I mean, what more do you want from a [midfielder]? Someone full of energy, who brings you goals and puts himself about on the pitch; it’s everything you ask for from a midfielder.

“If he had been here the full season, then I would say he would probably get double figures. He might still end up with double figures this season the way he’s going, to be totally honest.

“He’s a fantastic player, but I think he’s a good character.

(5:31) “You hope he’s going to be here next season, but there’ll be a lot of interest, and I’m sure Arsenal, the way they’ve been playing this season, probably would like to see what he can do in pre-season.”

TIF Thoughts on Willock joining Newcastle permanently…

The 21-year-old has made a huge impact on this Newcastle team, and the fact that he has come in and scored five goals in just 11 appearances is very impressive.

However, Mikel Arteta has been hinting that the Gunners would like him back next season, so the Toon could face a battle to keep Willock on Tyneside.

We hope that Willock does join the Toon permanently as he seems to be enjoying his time as a Newcastle player.
