A lot of Newcastle United fans have flocked to a post from Luke Edwards in which he relays quotes from his article on Steve Bruce’s future.

Newcastle's all-time top Premier League goalscorer is Alan Shearer but how many goals did he score for the club?

He claims that “unless Bruce is told he will be allowed to spend money on better players, why would he want to put himself in line for more abuse?.”

This has drawn the attention of these Newcastle fans who are fuming.

This narrative of you defending Bruce is boring. You think NUFC fans don’t blame MA for the mess the club is in?!?!? Ridiculous!!! We are allowed to think we have the worst owner in the league and a truly useless manager as well you know!”

@jkb_bell

He took over a team that had 2 seasons established in the PL. He signed (or was given) over £100m worth of signings yet you seem to insinuating that it’s an achievement that we’ve stayed up. It really isn’t, it’s been utterly atrocious with the exception of the odd game.”

@ChrisBlack10

Nothing to do with the abysmal performances bar 4 games.”

@sneddo_david

Do you agree with Edwards?

No, Bruce is at fault

No, Bruce is at fault

Yes, you can't blame Bruce

Yes, you can't blame Bruce

This current Newcastle squad has the likes of Callum Wilson, Jamaal Lascelles, and Martin Dubravka, all proven Premier League players.

Lascelles was close to an England call-up in 2018, as was Jonjo Shelvey, but since Bruce has come in, that talk has disappeared.

The Toon’s manager has also spent over £100m on new players, so he has been backed in the transfer market.

This post continued to draw in many Toon fans who had their say.

Luke you genuinely don’t believe that Bruce shoulders a signicant level of blame for the last two seasons, the style football, the horrendous form, backtracking on aims, comments on fans etc etc”

We’re not alone in our criticism of Bruce. Few fan bases have been sorry to see him leave. The stats show he is a very poor manager, happy to blame others for his failures. Other fans, who have had the have had the misfortune of his tenure, seem to agree. The fault lies with him.”

For me it comes down to a very simple question, have we progressed on any measure in the last 2 seasons despite spending over £100mil? Unfortunately, the answer seems to be no, we’ve actually gotten worse. Of course, Mike Ashley remains the main problem though, as ever.”

@LaserWave2

In truth, Bruce doesn’t have a bad squad, and he has been allowed to spend money to improve it, so we think that he deserves the criticism that has come his way this season for the team’s performance.
