Journalist Andy Mitten has recently talked about Harry Maguire and whether he could feature for Manchester United against Villarreal in the Europa League final.
Maguire is still injured and hasn’t featured in the club’s games against Liverpool, Leicester City and Fulham. The United skipper had sustained the injury in the club’s win over Aston Villa.
Mitten featured on the latest episode of the Talk of the Devils podcast, and one topic of discussion was the Europa League final against Unai Emery’s side.
Do you expect Maguire to start against Villarreal?
Yes
No
Mitten made it clear that he doesn’t expect the United skipper to feature – and that’s the feeling amongst those in Villarreal, too.
The journalist stated: “I don’t expect Harry Maguire to feature. Maybe he will prove everybody wrong. Certainly in Villarreal, there’s a feeling that he won’t be playing and there’s a lot of relief attached to that.”
TIF Thoughts on Maguire…
Maguire hasn’t featured in United’s last three Premier League games and the side has failed to win any of the matches during that period, which arguably shows the Englishman’s value to the team.
Only two other defenders have a higher aerial duel success rate than Maguire this season. He also ranks in the top five for the highest number of interceptions in the campaign, which could also portray his defensive importance to United.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has stated that Maguire is unlikely to be fit for the final. So if the defender is really set to be missing for the game, it might be a big blow for the Red Devils.
