Transfer insider Dean Jones has provided an update on Manchester United’s pursuit of Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho.

The 21-year-old England international has been one of the Red Devils’ main targets for some time now with interest stretching back as far as the summer transfer window of 2019, they even made a bid for his services last summer that was swiftly rejected by the German outfit.

And speaking on the latest edition of Touchline Talk (2:04), Jones said that Sancho does remain a target for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men this summer but that, despite the asking price reportedly being dropped, he still thinks that he’ll be far too expensive for Manchester United to push the deal through:

“United do definitely still want Sancho if they can get him. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was so disappointed not to get him last time around, and he still would really like him as part of his set up… So they’ve been waiting basically the last few weeks to find out what his new value is. Obviously last year they were looking at like €120m and they were never gonna pay that. And so finally it’s been leaked that the new valuation is €100m which is about £85m, something like that.

“Now that’s still too high to be honest, United still don’t feel that in this market at this time, with no other clubs seriously looking at him like they were, that that’s a realistic fee for Jadon Sancho, that’s what I’m told. So I still think personally that that fee needs to drop by about another £10m if a deal is going to be done.”

TIF Thoughts on Dean Jones’ comments about Jadon Sancho and Manchester United

So according to Jones, the deal is looking unlikely but certainly not dead in the water, at least at this stage, and it might take a little more wiggling from Manchester United to make it happen.

Whether that be by selling someone they weren’t intending to in order to raise the funds, or by offering a player in exchange to lower the price, with Donny van de Beek reportedly one of the names being raised as a possibility, but it looks as if this transfer saga isn’t going anywhere soon and could be set to drag for some time.
