Speaking on the most recent episode of the Transfer Window podcast, Ian McGarry has revealed Manchester United plan to put in a ‘big bid’ for a ‘prominent striker’ this summer.

It’s been a season of on-pitch progress for the Red Devils in 2020/21. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has guided his side to second in the Premier League table and is 90 minutes away from taking them to a European final.

However, the Old Trafford outfit are still someway behind league-leader Manchester City, with a 13-point gap separating the city rivals.

United’s shortcomings have seen them linked to several big names ahead of the upcoming transfer window, and McGarry has claimed Solskjaer’s already outlined one target to the club’s hierarchy.

He said: (9:45) “They’ve got a manager at the moment who they’re backing, who wants improvements at centre-forward, who would like to bring Erling Haaland to the club.

“I understand that he’s been told that there will be a bid for, a big bid made for a prominent striker this summer.”

TIF Thoughts on United’s transfer plans…

United have struggled to find a suitable striker in recent years, with the likes of Radamel Falcao and Romelu Lukaku struggling to find their best form at Old Trafford.

This time around Edinson Cavani has impressed in his first campaign on English shores, bagging 12 goals in 33 appearances for 20-time English champions.

However, at 34, the South American isn’t the long-term solution up front for United, and a move for Erling Haaland or another top-class striker would surely be an exciting prospect for Solskjaer and the supporters.

Indeed, Jamie Carragher even claimed that United need a top quality striker if they are to realise their title aspirations in the Premier League, so perhaps this could be the final piece to the puzzle to help Solskjaer and his players lift the holy grail of English football.
