Journalist Fabrizio Romano has offered an update on Manchester City’s pursuit of Harry Kane following recent claims about his future at Tottenham Hotspur.

The England captain’s future at the club is in serious doubt at the moment, with reports coming through that he will tell Spurs he wants to leave this summer, following on from claims that he would do so if the club failed to reach the top four. His future was thrown into further doubt by some of the comments he made in a recent interview with Gary Neville for Sky Sports.

Manchester City are one of the clubs that have reportedly put themselves forward to sign Kane should he move away from north London this summer, but speaking on the Here We Go podcast, Romano revealed that the club are hoping to start negotiations with the striker in the next few weeks, but that Tottenham still think they will be able to keep hold of him:

“Manchester City are convinced that Harry Kane is the first target so they want to try for Harry Kane. Their intention is to open talks in the next weeks for Harry Kane.

“But at the moment, the position of Tottenham – and we have to respect Tottenham’s position – is still the same also in the last hours. Harry’s saying ‘I want to leave the club’. This is the position, obviously ‘private’ position.

“But from Tottenham, the answer is always the same. They want to keep the player, they want to keep Harry Kane, and they will try also to bring in a new manager with a new project, [a] new manager trying to convince Harry Kane with something new. Let’s see what happens, but Manchester City will push Tottenham’s position.”

TIF Thoughts on Fabrizio Romano’s comments about Harry Kane to Manchester City…

Based off Romano’s comments, Manchester City feel they can persuade Kane to make the move to the Etihad Stadium if they can get the chance to talk to him, the problem now becomes trying to persuade Tottenham Hotspur to play ball.

And let’s face it, whilst Tottenham have reportedly slapped a very high price on his head, if there was one club in the world that you would back to make the deal happen on a financial level, it would be Manchester City.

They may need to throw in someone like Gabriel Jesus to sweeten the deal, as it were, but when it comes to the money side of it, if Manchester City want him, you’d imagine they can find a way to make it happen.
