Barry Fry has backed Everton to bring big-name signings into the club this summer.

The Toffees endured an inconsistent season in the Premier League under the management of Carlo Ancelotti.

Despite a promising start to the campaign, in which they were briefly second in the table, Everton ended the season in 10th-place.

Do you think Everton will improve next season?

They were ultimately eight points behind the top four, as they failed to capitalise on the malaise at clubs such as Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal.

They will not be playing European football next season as a result but it seems as though they will attempt to bring new signings into the club.

They have been heavily linked with a potential swoop to sign Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona, while they were also linked with a deal to sign Gareth Bale from Real Madrid after his Spurs loan ended.

Fry was asked if he could foresee Everton doing such deals, and he told This Is Futbol: “Yes I do. They’re very ambitious. They want to be in that top four, they want to be challenging, to do that, they’ve got to spend some money and get three or four quality players.

“That will boost their squad no end with strength in depth which they haven’t got now. I think they want to have a go next year, they really do, or they wouldn’t have brought Ancelotti in.”
