Former Premier League striker Marcus Bent has claimed Everton are ‘happy’ with Gylfi Sigurdsson and will keep him at the club next season.

The £13.5m rated (as per Transfermarkt) attacking-midfielder has often been criticised by Toffees fans throughout his time on Merseyside, coming under fire for his underwhelming displays since arriving four years ago.

However, after registering eight goals and nine assists in all competitions in 2020/21, Sigurdsson has had a fairly impressive campaign this time around.

The Iceland international’s improved performances have caught the eye of Carlo Ancelotti and the club’s hierarchy according to Bent, who revealed Everton’s stance on the midfield man in an exclusive interview with Football Fan Cast.

He said: Everton are happy with him and not looking to let him go. I think he’s got a future there; I’ve heard it from many people at Everton.”

Everton signed Sigurdsson back in August 2017 from Swansea City for a fee of £44.46 million and has since gone on to make over 150 appearances for the Toffees (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts on Everton and Sigurdsson…

Everton have had a frustrating season, with their poor home form really letting them down in their pursuit of European football.

Do you think Sigurdsson has had a good season so far?

The likes of James Rodriguez and Abdoulaye Doucoure have helped Ancelotti’s men improve in the current campaign, as they look destined to improve on last year’s 12th placed finish, but improvements from existing squad members such as Sigurdsson have also played a big part in what success they have had.

At 31, the former Swansea City and Tottenham Hotspur man is entering the twilight period of his career, and it seems as though he’ll spend at least the next 12 months of it at Everton.
