Transfer insider Dean Jones has been speaking on the latest edition of Touchline Talk about Crystal Palace’s search for a new manager as Roy Hodgson will leave the club at the end of the season.

Nice easy one to start off with, who currently sits top of the table?

One of the people linked with the job is Frank Lampard, who was sacked by Chelsea earlier this year but could be offered a quick return into management by the Eagles.

Certainly, Jones thinks that is the route Palace will go down, but he also suggests that Hodgson’s assistant Ray Lewington could stay on to give Lampard some guidance.

He said: (10:59) “It’s looking more and more likely to me that Frank Lampard does actually get it; they’re very tempted to give it to him, and I think what will convince them is that Ray Lewington potentially stays around to help steady the ship.

“That’s the big problem here transitioning from a Roy Hodgson team into a Frank Lampard team. His backroom team wouldn’t have the knowledge of the squad, and Ray Lewington’s been a big, big part of everything that Roy Hodgson has done.

“So if Ray Lewington was to stay part of it, I think Palace would have a little more confidence in taking that risk with Lampard.”

Do you think that Lampard and Lewington would be a good duo?

TIF Thoughts on Lampard and Lewington…

As a manager, Lampard has only taken charge of 141 games, while Lewington has been involved in coaching since 1986.

So, he has vast years of experience, and he has been at Palace since 2017 as well, so we can see sense in keeping him.

However, you could also argue that if the Eagles want a total refresh, then they don’t need to keep Lewington, and if they are going to hire Lampard, they should trust him to bring in who he wants.
