Sky Sports pundit and former Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie believes Wesley should call time on his stay at Villa Park.

First up in this Gareth Barry quiz, which club did Villa sign the midfielder from?

Villa signed the Brazilian in the summer of 2019, and he scored six goals in 22 appearances before he suffered an ACL injury in January 2020.

When he was close to returning to action, he suffered another knee injury, and as a result, he only made three first-team appearances for Villa in the 2020/21 season, totalling just 16 minutes on the pitch.

However, with Ollie Watkins around, Hendrie isn’t convinced that Wesley has done enough to stay at Villa Park.

Speaking to Football FanCast, he said: “Since he’s come in, he hasn’t done anything for me.

“Obviously, he had that bad injury as well, similar to Tom Heaton, but the season I’ve seen him, he wasn’t the player I felt that was going to fit the bill for Villa, if I’m being quite honest.

“There was lots of talk that he could get behind defenders, and I didn’t see that. I didn’t see that at all.

“I feel that it’d be better for him to possibly move on and further his career.”

TIF Thoughts on Wesley…

The 24-year-old, who is valued at £13.5 million (as per Transfermarkt), arrived from Club Brugge after scoring 38 goals for the Belgian side, and he did pretty well in a struggling Villa team that scraped survival in his absence.

The injury was unfortunate, and he has not been able to get himself back on track since, so we are not sure if getting rid of him would be fair.

However, Watkins had a fantastic season for Villa as he scored 16 goals in all competitions, so perhaps Wesley will find game time hard to come by next season.

If that is the case, perhaps he should move on as Hendrie suggests.
