Former Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie has told This Is Futbol in an exclusive interview that he would not be surprised if Nuno Espirito Santo ended up in the Villa Park dugout one day.

According to Football Insider, Nuno’s agent Jorge Mendes would like to move him to a club with more financial power like Villa, while they also report that Dean Smith’s long-term position at the club is not secure.

Given how well Smith has done this season, keeping the Villans out of relegation trouble, and the fact that Nuno is currently managing a rival club, the above materialising would be controversial.

Is Grealish England's most talented attacker?

Without a doubt!

Without a doubt!

Not a chance!

Not a chance!

Even so, Hendrie believes you cannot rule it out in this day and age of football. He told TIF:

“Do you know what? I can see anything happening in football. It wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest.

I wouldn’t like to see it happen, to be honest. I wouldn’t like to see it happen. I’d like to see Dean there again, taking on that Villa squad and maybe given the chance and the resources to go and build that football team and make Villa a force next season.”

Indeed, having taken Villa back to the Premier League and kept them there for two seasons straight, Smith certainly deserves time to build and plenty of backing from his superiors.
