Former Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie has told This Is Futbol in an exclusive interview that his old side need a player like West Brom’s Matheus Pereira.
This comes after Pereira was linked with a move to the Villans, with The Athletic (via Birmingham Mail) reporting that the Midlands club are just one outfit currently keeping tabs on the 24-year-old attacker.
The above comes as no surprise, as Pereira continues to excel in a struggling West Brom side. Despite the team’s lack of form this season, the Brazilian has still been able to rack up the goals, with some of his most recent coming against Villa and Chelsea.
Will Villa sign Matheus Pereira this summer?
For Hendrie, he is the kind of player Villa could do with and one who would fit well in Dean Smith’s side.
Speaking exclusively to TIF about Villa’s reported interest in Pereira, who was labelled as a “delight to watch” by ex-Villa man Micah Richards back in September, the retired Premier League footballer said:
“He’s been one of their better players, he’s a creative threat, he scores goals and that’s what Villa need I feel at this moment of time.
“I think he would be a great fit. I really think he would.”
While West Brom may not be able to offer Pereira Premier League football next season, Villa can, so this could be a move that works well for all parties if the Baggies manage to get a decent fee from his sale.
