Aston Villa journalist Mat Kendrick has been sharing his thoughts on Villa club captain Jack Grealish and his future at the Midlands club.

This comes after Kendrick made an appearance on a recent episode of the Birmingham Mail’s Claret & Blue Podcast where he spoke about a range of topics concerning Dean Smith’s side, including their recent 0-0 draw against Everton in the Premier League.

First up in this Gareth Barry quiz, which club did Villa sign the midfielder from?

On the subject of Grealish, who made his long-awaited return from injury during the second half of the game against Carlo Ancelotti’s side, Kendrick had this to say about a potential summer exit for the Villa man. (30.06)

He said: “Probably sticking my neck out. I think Jack Grealish will be an Aston Villa player again next season.

“I hope I’m not tempting fate but I’ve moaned in the past haven’t I about, certainly last season with us all being in lockdown and not in games, that we’ve seen the last of Jack Grealish in a Villa shirt in the flesh.

“I don’t think that is the case now; I think we’re going to go and enjoy him for another season at least.”

Since making his senior debut for the Villans back in 2014 under former manager Paul Lambert, the 25-year-old, who is currently valued at £54 million, has made 210 appearances for the club across all competitions in which he has managed to score 32 goals and provide 43 assists in the process (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts on Mat Kendrick’s comments on Grealish and his future at Villa…

Given how Grealish was linked with both Manchester City and Manchester United last summer, it’s easy to see why the topic of his future at Villa was brought up in this latest podcast.

Are you confident Grealish will be a Villa player next season?

No

With Grealish being Villa’s highest-rated player this season, it’s understandable why the club would be hoping to keep hold of the Englishman for as long as possible.

In our view, with Grealish signing a five-year contract with the Midlands club last year, this suggests to us that he intends of remaining as a Villa player for the foreseeable future.
