Transfer expert Dean Jones has been speaking on the latest edition of Touchline Talk to discuss all things transfer-related ahead of this summer’s market.

Jones discussed a number of potential incomings and outgoings, and one in particular which will interest Arsenal fans is Martin Odegaard.

Do you want Odegaard back at Arsenal?

No

The Norwegian star spent half of the 2020/21 campaign out on loan with the Gunners in which he was able to feature 14 times in the Premier League – netting on one occasion (via Transfermarkt).

Odegaard has now returned to his parent club, but reports surround the £36m-rated ace and where his future lies.

Discussing the winger’s time at the Gunners and his potential opportunities at Madrid, Jones had the following to say on Odegaard’s future:

He said: “It’s not looking great on that front. I’d say that if they’re going to keep him, then [Mikel] Arteta needs to have one of his really good convincing chats again, that got him there in the first place.

“The problem now is that Odegaard’s actually seen the place for a few months and seen quite how much of a mess that they’re in and how much work needs to be done.

“He might think, well, maybe I’ll just go back and give it another crack at Real Madrid.”

TIF Thoughts on Odegaard’s future…

The Norwegian certainly enjoyed a good spell of first-team football during his few months out on loan with the north London side which he may not have got had he stayed at Los Blancos.

However, as Jones alluded to, would the 22-year-old star want to return to Arsenal given they will not be playing European football of any kind next season?

Going by what Jones had to say, it appears the Gunners will be looking to get Odegaard back, but ultimately it is down to whether the player actually wants to return.
