Transfer insider David Ornstein has provided an update on Arsenal’s interest in Norwich City’s Emi Buendia.

The Argentinian has had nothing short of a sensational season for the Canaries in the Championship, scoring 15 goals and providing 17 assists as Norwich stormed to the title, which meant it was no surprise to see him named Championship Player of the Year for his efforts.

And it’s those numbers that would make him seem like he’d be pretty vital to Daniel Farke’s men next season in the Premier League as they hope to stay up.

In what month did Mikel Arteta take over as the Arsenal boss?

But it looks as if he might not be a part of the setup at Carrow Road, as speaking on the latest edition of The Athletic’s Ornstein and Chapman Podcast, Ornstein revealed Norwich are open to selling him, and that although Arsenal are interested, he won’t be the Gunners’ top priority this window:

(24:02) “He, from what we know is available for transfer.

(24:54) “Arsenal, their top target for that position is Martin Odegaard, who they had on loan, would like to sign permanently. If they don’t get him then they’ll consider Buendia.”

Should Arsenal sign Buendia?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

TIF Thoughts on David Ornstein’s comments on Emi Buendia

This is a very dangerous game for Arsenal to be playing if he is indeed their number two target.

As Charles Watts has explained, it’s not a certainty that Odegaard will be in a position to leave Real Madrid at any point this summer, whereas it seems as though Buendia, should they be able to afford him with a reported asking price of £40m, is being handed to them.

And Arsenal are in danger of spending too much time trying to sign one player whilst letting the other one potentially slip through their fingers. And what happens if they don’t sign Odegaard and it’s too late to go back in for Buendia? They’ll end up with nothing.

So perhaps a rethink of priorities is in order at The Emirates.
