Charles Watts has given his thoughts on the injury situation surrounding Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka.

The Swiss midfielder has been injured for a few weeks now having suffered a groin strain in the warm-up of their draw with Villarreal in the semi-finals of the Europa League, however, he returned to training this week ahead of Arsenal’s final two games of the season against Crystal Palace and Brighton & Hove Albion.

In what month did Mikel Arteta take over as the Arsenal boss?

And speaking on the latest edition of his show, Watts felt that tonight’s game against the Eagles might come a little bit too soon for him, but that he felt he should be back in time for the final day of the season against Brighton:

“Granit Xhaka is on his way back, whether he plays tonight I still think is probably pretty doubtful given he’s only just come back to training. But it is a bonus that he is training, it’s a boost, and you imagine that’ll certainly mean he should be involved on Sunday in the final game of the season against Brighton.

“Tonight I think might come a little bit too soon for Granit Xhaka, though. But having him back and available is certainly a boost going into the summer.”

Do you think Arsenal should get rid of Xhaka?

TIF Thoughts on Charles Watts’ comments on Granit Xhaka’s injury…

If he does indeed come back for the game on Sunday against Brighton, then this will surely come as a big boost for Mikel Arteta and the Gunners, who haven’t exactly had the best of seasons.

But if they can at least finish the season strong and give themselves something to smile about heading into the 2021/22 campaign, then it might just make things a little bit more bearable going into the summer.

In order to do that, they’re going to need their best players available, and with Xhaka being their 8th-best player this season by WhoScored’s metrics, then his presence should help them do that.
