Sky Sports writer Oliver Yew has been speaking on the latest edition of Sky Sports’ Pitch to Post podcast about Arsenal crashing out of the Europa League and what happens now.

In what month did Mikel Arteta take over as the Arsenal boss?

The Gunners lost the first leg of their Europa League final 2-1 to Villarreal and then could only manage a 0-0 draw in the return leg, which means that Unai Emery’s side will face Manchester United in the final.

This was probably the last chance for the Gunners to achieve anything this season as they currently sit in ninth place in the Premier League table, and Yew thinks that Arteta will be under serious pressure.

He said: “I think the pressure will pile on Arteta now. I mean, they can finish the season as strongly [as] they can, and that’s the only target they have now.

“So we’ll see, but the pressure is building at Arsenal, and something will have to give. The owners brought Arteta in on quite a big fanfare, young coach with so much potential, but it hasn’t worked out.”

Do you think Arteta should leave?

TIF Thoughts on Arteta…

The Spaniard has now taken charge of 82 Arsenal games, and in that time, he has won an FA Cup, but this season has been poor.

The Gunners were knocked out of the FA Cup by Southampton quite early on, and then they have only won 14 league games all season, and the likes of Everton and West Ham United are above them in the Premier League final.

If they had reached the Europa League final and won then, you would think the season would be classed as a success, but it hasn’t worked out that way, and pressure seems to be building on Arteta already.

We feel that given how young he is and the fact he has won a trophy, he should be given a lot longer to mould this Arsenal side in his vision.
