West Bromwich Albion journalist and podcaster Adrian Goldberg has been sharing his thoughts on on-loan Baggies midfielder Conor Gallagher and his season with the Midlands club.

This comes after Goldberg co-hosted a recent episode of Baggies-themed podcast The Liquidator where he spoke about a range of topics concerning the club.

Nice easy one to start off with, who currently sits top of the table?

On the subject of Gallagher, who has spent the 2020/21 season on loan from Chelsea at The Hawthorns, Goldberg had this to say about the midfielder (7:22):

“I love the way he approaches the game, but too often he’s late to the ball, he is Cinderella isn’t he? And doesn’t score often enough from good shooting positions. He doesn’t give the ball enough to players on his own team when he has the ball at his feet.

“A real trier, he’s going back to Chelsea apparently to see if he can force his way into that team. I’m sorry Conor, I really like your approach to football, but I don’t think Conor Gallagher, at the moment, is anywhere near being a Premier League footballer for anybody, quite honestly, whether he will be, I don’t know, you never write people off, but I think he’s just so far off the pace of being a Premier League footballer.”

During his time with West Brom, the 21-year-old, who is currently valued at £10.8 million, played in 30 out of the 38 Premier League games they played this season, in which he managed to score two goals and provide two assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts on Adrian Goldberg’s comments on Gallagher…

Given how Gallagher only managed to earn himself a fairly underwhelming overall season rating of 6.63/10 for his performances in the league for the Baggies, racking up more yellow cards (11) than any other West Brom player by a significant margin, this suggests that the midfielder hasn’t had a particularly positive spell with the Midlands club, especially with the fact that they got relegated.

In our view, Gallagher didn’t show enough during his time at West Brom that he has what it takes to be a regular performer for Chelsea, who managed to secure their place in the top four.
