Former Premier League midfielder Carlton Palmer has told This Is Futbol in an exclusive interview that Sheffield United must get their next managerial appointment right if they are to win promotion next season.

The Yorkshire club’s relegation to the Championship was recently confirmed, while they are still on the lookout for a permanent manager following Chris Wilder’s exit in March.

In this moment of time, there does not seem to be a frontrunner for the job, which perhaps indicates that Sheffield United are being very thorough in their search.

Would you like to see John Terry in charge at Sheff Utd?

Yes

No

And for Palmer, that would be a good thing, with the ex-Sheffield Wednesday player warning his old rivals that they must find the right man for the dugout if they want to make an immediate return to the Premier League.

When asked by TIF what the Blades need in order to bounce straight back up, Palmer said:

They’ve got to get the right manager in. It’s as simple as that. I think that’s bad, bad business what they did with Chris Wilder, whichever way it went, that Chris has left the football club.

“You’ve seen with Norwich, you’ve seen with Burnley before, got relegated, kept the same manager, kept the faith. And those teams have got promoted again – and at the first time of asking.”

One name Sheffield United are said to be looking at is Aston Villa assistant head coach John Terry.
