Norwich City are set to embark on their second Premier League season in three years after winning yet another Championship title at the first time of asking but they should not be targeting former players, according to Jon Newsome.
The Canaries largely kept the squad that got relegated in 2020 with only Jamal Lewis and Ben Godfrey being the high-profile departures, and they will be hoping to keep together the squad that got them promoted.
Will Norwich avoid relegation next season?
Daniel Farke will have a better idea of how to tackle the Premier League after experiencing how tough it is last time out when the Canaries stunk out the league finishing rock bottom with just five wins.
Robbie Brady and Alex Pritchard are set to become free agents this summer and were mentioned by Pink Un as potential cut-price targets, with the former having a boatload of top-flight experience, However, former Norwich defender Newsome would avoid bringing them back to the club. He explained his thinking exclusively to This is Futbol:
“I think Alex Pritchard has played 17 games this season in the Championship and Robbie Brady has played 21 games for Burnley so it’s not a great return. I think sometimes players returning to their old clubs, doesn’t usually work out.
“I would imagine that Norwich have already got the people lined up that they’ve been looking at, so I’d be surprised if they returned.”
Both Pritchard and Brady enjoyed a relatively successful time at Carrow Road with the former making 43 appearances for the club whereas Brady made 62 appearances and his performances earned him a move to Burnley in 2018.
Since promotion was guaranteed back into the Premier League Norwich have seen Emil Buendia get linked with a move to Arsenal and reports have suggested that the Canaries could accept a £40 million offer for him this summer.
