Speaking exclusively to This Is Futbol, former Leeds United striker Brian Deane believes the Whites need someone similar to Marcelo Bielsa if he leaves this summer amid links to Diego Martinez.

According to Onda Cero (via Sport Witness), Leeds’ director of football Victor Orta is eyeing up the Granada boss in the event that Bielsa departs at the end of the season.

Bielsa has had a successful campaign with the Yorkshire club this season, but he is yet to extend his current deal that expires at the end of June.

Leeds' all-time top Premier League goalscorer is Mark Viduka but how many did he score?

At Granada, Martinez is also in a similar position, with the 40-year-old coming to the end of his contract as well. And it appears Leeds could pounce on that should they end up losing Bielsa.

On the speculation that Leeds are looking at Martinez as a potential replacement for Bielsa, Deane told TIF:

“He [Bielsa] has had such an impact here that straight away if the next manager comes in and doesn’t have the same impact, then it could be a problem.

“I would suspect that the reason why they’ve been linked with this guy is because he’s very similar to Bielsa with his methods.

“It would be foolish if they didn’t start looking for somebody, potentially, who is going to carry on his legacy.”

For now, it is a waiting game for Leeds supporters, who will no doubt be desperate for Bielsa to extend his stay at Elland Road given what he has managed to achieve at the club and in such a short space of time.
