Bielsa has not signed a new contract yet, with his deal expiring at the end of the season.

He waited until the summer last season as he looked to focus on the job in hand of taking Leeds into the Premier League and similar is happening this season, as the Argentine aims to finish as high as possible in the league.

But Newsome says that Leeds and Bielsa have already sat down at the table and discussed extending his stay.

Speaking exclusively to TIF, he said: “I believe talks have opened, preliminary talks have already opened between the club and the manager.

“So they’re in front of the game on that. They’re ahead of the game already. So I’d like to think that possibly, that will get wrapped up at some point.”
