The chances of Eddie Howe taking over at Celtic are ‘diminishing’ and the ex-Bournemouth boss has held talks with Crystal Palace, according to a report from Football Insider.
It was reported earlier this month that the Hoops were closing in on the appointment of Howe, who they had identified as their top target to replace Neil Lennon long-term.
But Palace are also said to be admirers, and their current boss Roy Hodgson is out of contract at the end of the season.
They’ve made a bid to hijack the deal.
And there’s now a fear at Celtic Park that Howe is using their interest as leverage with Premier League suitors.
This has compelled the Hoops to assess alternative options, among them ex-Borussia Dortmund boss Lucien Favre.
The Mail reported last month that Favre was interested in the post in Glasgow.
And Football Insider say the club have initiated contact with the Swiss.
