Celtic supporters have been reacting on Twitter after ex-striker John Hartson claimed John Kennedy could become the next manager if he delivers the Scottish Cup.

The Hoops have been without a permanent boss since Neil Lennon resigned in February, with Kennedy placed in interim charge ever since.

Under the 37-year-old’s tutelage, the Glasgow giants have performed fairly well, going five games unbeaten in all competitions, including a 6-0 thrashing of Livingston last time out.

Speaking on Go Radio, (via the Daily Record), Hartson suggested that Celtic may turn to Kennedy if the likes of Eddie Howe and Steve Clarke are unattainable in the summer.

“The guys who have been linked like Eddie Howe and Steve Clarke and several others, you would probably go with them before John,” he said.

“But if Celtic are in a position where they can’t get the right one, and John keeps winning and keeps playing really good football and progressing on the front foot like they have been playing, I suppose he comes in the running.

“I’m not too sure. All John has to do is keep winning, keep playing great football like he’s doing. He comes across excellent. The fans might say he’s not a big enough name, but what I’d say to that is that John knows that club inside out.

“He’s been there with three different managers, and he would have taken a lot from each of them – particularly Brendan Rodgers on the tactical side because he was magnificent. You look at the way he set his team up, the way that they played and what he’s doing now at Leicester.

“For me, I think John has to deliver the Scottish Cup.” However, it seems some Celtic fans don’t share Hartson’s views.

“If true then this is an utter disgrace. Lacks ambition, a smack in the face to all Celtic fans as this guy has been about since before Delia. Be prepared to not sell season tickets and to take is back to the dark days of the 90’s. We deserve much much better.”
