Joe Thomlinson has been speaking on the latest edition of the Extra Time show to discuss some of his biggest disappointments of the 2020/21 Premier League season.

The Sky Sports presenter had discussed his disappointment in Tottenham Hotspur’s season to date, admitting he felt they have underachieved by their own standards set over the last few years.

Has Mourinho done a good job at Spurs?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Spurs currently sit sixth in the Premier League table and just three points off fourth-placed West Ham, however, there is a feeling of a missed opportunity from the weekend’s draw against Newcastle United to close the gap on the Hammers.

Since the turn of the year, there have been question marks surrounding the future of Jose Mourinho at the north London side but Thomlinson had this to say when questioned if the 58-year-old will be in charge of Spurs come next season:

He said: “I’d be surprised if he isn’t. I think Daniel Levy sticks by his man, even if he doesn’t finish in the top four and loses that League Cup final. I think Daniel Levy is a big, big fan of Jose Mourinho. (14:58)

“I think he’s wanted him for quite a while and is almost enamoured by him, in awe of him a little bit and I think it will be to the detriment of Tottenham and then next season will be the year that it all goes wrong.”

TIF Thoughts on Thomlinson’s comments…

The draw against Newcastle on the weekend was pretty poor from a Spurs point of view. Not only did they drop points in the race for a place in the top four, but it also provoked the petty side of Mourinho in his post-match interviews.

Spurs are now in danger of not qualifying for the Champions League for two consecutive seasons after their 2019 visit to the final of the competition – both seasons managed by Mourinho.

The Portuguese manager did take over from Mauricio Pochettino in the 2019/20 season, however, he took over in November leaving him the majority of the season to turn it around.

There have been some really poor moments for Spurs this season, the defeat in Zagreb being the main one, and yet Thomlinson still feels Mourinho will be given more time by Levy.
