Sheffield Wednesday journalist Dom Howson has been sharing his thoughts on Owls winger Andre Green and his future with the Yorkshire club.

This comes after Howson co-hosted a recent episode of Wednesday-themed podcast Singing The Blues where he spoke about a number of topics concerning Darren Moore’s side.

An easy one to kick off our quiz on the 2020 summer transfer window in the EFL, which player left Birmingham City to join Borussia Dortmund?

On the subject of Green, Howson had this to say about the player ahead of the crucial season climax.

He said: “I tell you what, he’s now nailed on, injuries permitting, and I haven’t heard anything to suggest he’s got an injury, he’s going to be starting the last two matches, he’s got to.

“I definitely saw there’s more end product with him than what you’d get with a Kadeem Harris who’s so hit and miss as we’ve seen for the last couple of years.

“I tell you what, he’s one of those players that, he’s under contract for next season and I think Andre Green, should the worst happen, and Wednesday are relegated, I could see him being a big player in League One in Wednesday looking to revive and turn around their fortunes.”

Wednesday signed Green back in the previous January transfer window as a free agent after he left Premier League side Aston Villa in the previous summer window.

TIF Thoughts on Dom Howson’s comments on Green…

Since arriving at the club, the 22-year-old, who is currently valued at £900k, has made 10 appearances for the Owls in which he has only managed to provide one assist in the process during their recent 3-1 defeat against Middlesbrough in the Championship (per Transfermarkt).

Do you think Andre Green will be an important player for Wednesday next season?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Even though he hasn’t been particularly active in terms of his goalscoring during the games he’s played for Wednesday so far this season, it’s promising to hear that Howson has enough belief in Green and his overall abilities that he could be a vital figure for the team if they end up getting relegated this season and become a League One side.

Given how Green had a spell on loan at League One side Charlton Athletic, perhaps this experience would be a benefit for the winger if Wednesday were to go down.

Considering Green has not played too often this season, perhaps Howson’s comments suggest that he expects major changes to the squad if the Owls go down, and maybe Green’s youth and promise will see him rise up the pecking order at Hillsborough.
