Ex-Owls midfielder Carlton Palmer has praised Sheffield Wednesday playmaker Barry Bannan for his dependability.

Since swapping south London for Sheffield when he joined the Owls from Crystal Palace in the 2015/16 season, the ex-Eagles ace has been a mainstay under the various reigns of different managers.

The ever-dependable ex-Scotland international has managed two goals and five assists this season alone, featuring in every starting XI in the Championship and featuring in 97% of minutes.

Typically featuring in the heart of midfield, Bannan is also adept out wide and is something of a Swiss army knife of a creative outlet.

Speaking to FootballFanCast, Palmer said of the experienced dynamo:

“I think somebody that has regularly performed for them has been Barry Bannan,” Palmer said.

“I think he’s someone who’s always done well for Sheffield Wednesday since he’s come to the football club.”

Proving himself to the likes of Carlos Carvalhal, Garry Monk and now Darren Moore is no easy feat, and winning the trust of several tacticians is a testament to the transcendent nature of his talents.

With his experience and directness in front of goal, Moore will be hoping his versatile attacker can continue to increase on his returns this season as the Owls vie to avoid relegation in the midst of a deleterious points deduction.

Bannan, who is currently valued at £1.8 million (as per Transfermarkt), is out of contract in the summer, and relegation could be a nudge that enables him to part ways from Hillsborough.
