Celtic podcaster Paul Fisher has recently discussed the reason why Eddie Howe’s move to Parkhead is being held up.
Fisher appeared on the latest episode of the Grand Auld podcast and the panel discussed numerous issues involving the Parkhead-based club. One topic of discussion was the situation involving Eddie Howe and his potential move to Celtic.
He talked about the possible reasons why the Hoops haven’t appointed the Englishman yet, claiming that it could be announced by the end of April.

While a deal has been agreed in principle for Howe, the Englishman has made certain demands to the club before he takes over. Dominic McKay though, is set to come into his role well before the initial date, which might be a sign of some incoming movement at the club.
That’s what Fisher points to as well, saying that because McKay is coming in early, it could well spark the process of finalising the last details involving Howe’s signing.
The podcaster said: “So it is a week or so that he [McKay] is going to be confirmed and there’s obviously the dialogue that’s been ongoing beforehand, and that obviously something has happened to speed up his move to Celtic because it was originally July he was supposed to be in that role.
“So if he’s been moved up and he’s coming in early, there’s obviously something that he wants to do to be involved with the managerial process and Peter Lawwell has accepted that, the club has accepted that before we all move forward.
“And I think just purely the optics of it would look like it’s Peter Lawwell selecting the manager without the Dominic McKay influence. So now he’s coming in, and he’s on board with that. Final week in April – I think that’s when things will be done and dusted.”
TIF Thoughts on Howe’s hold-up…
The fact that McKay has come into his role earlier than the initial date might suggest that the club wants to work on something and get it sorted quickly. And not having McKay’s approval for the potential appointment of Howe wouldn’t have helped in the next season as Celtic would’ve risked them not being on the same wavelength.
While McKay’s early arrival might be a good sign, the Hoops would have to meet Howe’s demands soon. Newcastle have previously been linked with him and the same applies for Crystal Palace. So if Celtic take too much time to strike an agreement, they could be taking a big risk.
