Scott McDermott has been speaking on the latest episode of the Record Rangers podcast, where he disclosed his belief that Connor Goldson will sign a new contract with the Ibrox club.

The 28-year-old has been in scintillating form for Steven Gerrard’s side this season, as his impressive 7.25/10 WhoScored average match rating shows.

Goldson, who is valued at £4.95 million (as per Transfermarkt), played a crucial part as the Gers claimed their 55th top-flight title, starting all 33 of the Ibrox outfit’s league games so far in the current campaign.

Following Rangers’ success, the club have handed out contracts to key figures such as James Tavernier, Allan McGregor and Steven Davis, and now talk has turned to whether Goldson will follow suit and put pen to paper on a new deal, something McDermott is confident will happen.

He said: “I expect him to sign it, I think he’ll be the next one. I’d be really surprised. Probably with him, there’s a wee bit of debate just because of his age – you know, would he want to go back to England, he’s only got a year left.

“He might feel as if he’s still got a bit of unfinished business in the Premier League, for instance, we don’t know, but from the outside looking in, the other three that you mentioned, I’d be amazed if Goldson wasn’t next on the list.”

TIF Thoughts on Goldson…

It’s been an incredible season for everyone involved with Rangers, and the Glasgow giants will be hoping to add a Scottish Cup to their trophy cabinet in the coming weeks after running away with the league title.

Goldson has been instrumental to the Light Blues’ success this campaign having played every minute in the league, but having left Brighton after making just three appearances in the Premier League, the Englishman may want one last crack at testing himself against top-level opposition.

It remains to be seen whether Goldson commits his long-term future to Rangers, although the supporters have made it clear they want to see the towering centre-back remain at the club for a little while longer.
