Frank McAvennie has exclusively told This is Futbol that Ryan Christie wants to leave Celtic, whilst he expects top scorer Odsonne Edouard to return to France this summer.

The former Hoops man has previously criticised Scottish international Christie , although the attacker has still chipped in with five goals and 14 assists in all competitions.

Christie has been linked with a number of Premier League sides in recent months, including Arsenal and Leicester along with Newcastle, Southampton and Brighton – with his contract at Celtic Park expiring next summer, meaning he could be available at a cut-price.

Celtic fans, can you get 8/8 on this quiz on forgotten players? First up: who is this?

But McAvennie told This is Futbol that Christie, who was signed by Ronny Deila in 2015, will have to buck his ideas up should he move to the Premier League.

He said:

“Christie wants to go. I feel sometimes they don’t realise until they leave how big of a club Celtic are.

“I don’t know if Ryan has got it in him to play in the Premier League. I think he’s a talent, but he won’t get away with it in England, trying to be a one-man show.

“I think he could do something for Celtic if he started being a team player. I don’t think he’s happy, he’s playing out wide, maybe that has got something to do with it. If he gets his dream move, good luck to him.

Meanwhile, Edouard, whose on course to be the club’s top goalscorer for a third season on the bounce having recently hit 20 goals, has also been strongly linked with a move to England and Arsenal specifically as a potential Alexandre Lacazette replacement, although McAvennie believes that returning to his native France is a more likely destination.

He added:

“But Edouard definitely, he’s going to go. I think he’ll end up going back to France, because he’s a better player than that. I thought he was going to go on and be better than Dembele.”
