Tom English has been speaking on the latest instalment of the On The Ball podcast, where he claimed he ‘would love to see’ Jose Mourinho become the new Celtic manager as it would be ‘hilarious.’

The Hoops are searching for a new manager after Neil Lennon resigned from the role back in February after seeing his side fall 18 points behind the league leaders.

Mourinho has recently found himself out of work after being sacked by Tottenham Hotspur on Monday, sparking rumours that the 58-year-old could be about to become the new Celtic boss.

After being asked about the links between the former Scottish champions and Mourinho, English was quick to dismiss them, although he revealed it would be a match-up he’d like to see happen.

He said: “I can’t see it. I would love to see it because it would be hilarious, and I think he would be a disaster for Celtic – and for Mourinho, I think. But I can’t see it.

“Obviously, Eddie Howe has been the frontrunner but that’s gone a long time now, and there’s still no announcement. There’s talk of Chris Wilder coming into the picture but there’s still no still smoke at Celtic Park, and I think the fans are getting increasingly agitated.”

TIF Thoughts on Celtic’s next manager…

Whoever takes charge of the Glasgow giants has a huge rebuilding job on their hands, after a 2-0 defeat to bitter rivals Rangers in the Scottish Cup means Celtic are set for their first trophyless season since 2010.

Several big names have been linked with the role, including Roy Keane, Roberto Martinez, Eddie Howe and Chris Wilder, although Mourinho would arguably be the most high-profile of them all given his past achievements.

It remains to be seen whether the former Spurs boss could be tempted to join Celtic and try his hand in Scottish football, but it would certainly be entertaining if he did.
