Journalist Stephen McGowan has recently provided an update about Celtic’s chase of Eddie Howe.

This came after McGowan appeared on Superscoreboard recently and he was asked about numerous issues involving Celtic and Scottish football.

McGowan was asked about Celtic’s chase of Eddie Howe and he said that both parties are currently relaxed about the Englishman managing at Parkhead. The journalist made it clear that a non-negotiable demand from Howe seems to be the appointment of Richard Hughes and the ex-Bournemouth manager has also demanded assurances about transfer fees.

Will Howe manage Celtic next season?

McGowan had written about a face-to-face meeting involving Howe and Dermot Desmond in London. His article had stated that the Hoops were closing in on a move for Howe, but the move hasn’t happened yet.

The journalist has now stated that while there was an expectation that things would move quickly, there are reasons for the hold-up.

He said: “The two sides seem more relaxed about it than the fans are. He met Dermot Desmond two weeks ago in London, there was an expectation things might move quickly because he’s out of work but that hasn’t happened, but there might be reasons for that.

“He’ll want fairly precise details on how much money he has to spend because of all these players potentially going out the door. How much does he have to sign 10 or 11 players?

“I think a non-negotiable point seems to be Bournemouth technical director Richard Hughes coming along as well. I don’t know he’s going to be director of football or technical director, I think he’s going to head up the player scouting operation, maybe a replacement for Nicky Hammond.

“Eddie Howe wouldn’t be appointing his own boss, he just wants someone he can trust by his side. I don’t know he’s keen on the idea of Celtic bringing in a director of football he doesn’t know in Fergal Harkin to work above his head.”

TIF Thoughts on Howe to Celtic…

McGowan’s information should come as good news for Celtic, and to seal Howe’s signature, the Hoops should move quickly and bring Richard Hughes in soon. Only that will help them ease the move through.

There has been speculation about Celtic fearing Howe snubbing them for Crystal Palace and links have emerged with Brighton too.

That should act as Celtic’s trigger to move quickly and seal the deal as soon as possible. Or else, they could risk missing out on the Englishman.
