Celtic podcaster JP Mason has recently discussed the possibility of Peter Grant returning to Parkhead to work alongside Eddie Howe.

This came after Mason appeared as a guest on the panel of the ‘A Celtic State of Mind’ podcast. They talked about numerous issues involving the Hoops and one topic of discussion was the idea of Grant returning to Parkhead in a coaching capacity alongside Eddie Howe. Mason made it clear that he’d like to see Grant return as it allows him the chance to wear the Hoops shirt in an official capacity again.

While Grant is currently managing Alloa Athletic, he was previously Tony Mowbray’s assistant at Parkhead. As a player, the Scotsman played for Bournemouth before his retirement, sharing the dressing room with Howe himself.

Should Howe hire Peter Grant at Celtic?

As things stand, the Englishman is closing in on a move to Parkhead and talks have been held between both the parties.

Mason made it clear that he’s well behind the idea of Grant returning under Howe, even though the experience with Mowbray wasn’t great around 11 years ago.

The pundit said: “The thing about Peter Grant, the Mowbray thing – because I’m sure Tony Mowbray was gutted about how it worked out at Celtic, I’m sure he wished it had gone better. The fact that Peter Grant was associated with that kind of failure really stuck in my throat because you know how much Peter Grant wants Celtic. The guy loves it.

“If Eddie Howe was to bring Peter Grant into his coaching team and it was an Eddie Howe decision, I’d be all for that because I’d love to see Peter Grant get another chance of wearing the badge again in an official capacity.”

TIF Thoughts about Grant possibly returning to Celtic…

As a player, Grant was a product of the Celtic youth academy and he played for the club over multiple years before he joined Norwich City later in his career (as per Transfermarkt).

This shows that if Grant does return, Howe will have someone who is connected to the club in his team. But having said that, the Englishman is happy to have John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan in his coaching staff. Kennedy himself has worked at Parkhead for many years.

So it seems as if Howe may already have people who are connected to Celtic in his staff. Because of that, having Grant may not make too much sense.
