Celtic podcaster Hamish Carton has recently expressed his disappointment with the club’s striker Odsonne Edouard.
He talked about the potential injection of youth in the game or the lack of it, claiming that Edouard is a man who has lost his confidence and isn’t interested in playing for the Bhoys anymore.
Is Edouard disinterested?
Edouard started the game on Wednesday, but the Frenchman couldn’t find the back of the net as Leigh Griffiths spared the team’s blushes with a late equaliser. Edouard picked up a rating of 6.86/10 in the game and was substituted in the second half for the eventual goalscorer (as per WhoScored).
Carton spoke about Edouard and stated: “I’d have dropped Edouard, I don’t care if he [John Kennedy] even put an academy option there – give someone an experience rather than playing a player who plainly isn’t interested. Even if he is interested, a player who has absolutely no confidence. His confidence has been absolutely shot to pieces, Edouard.”
TIF Thoughts on Edouard…
Edouard’s non-penalty goalscoring tally per 90 minutes has certainly declined this season. The current tally stands at 0.47, which is the lowest of his Celtic career so far. He has scored five penalties – more than ever in a single season of his career, but recently missed one against Rangers in the Scottish Cup (as per FBRef).
While he has scored more often in recent weeks, Edouard wasn’t consistent enough in scoring earlier in the campaign.
Considering all those reasons and the recent penalty miss, it is easy to see why Celtic fans might be disappointed in the Frenchman.
