Journalist Michael Gannon has recently tipped Callum McGregor to replace Scott Brown in the future for Celtic.

Gannon appeared as a guest on the Record Celtic podcast and spoke about multiple issues involving the Parkhead-based side.

One topic of discussion was Brown’s Celtic departure and Gannon believes that McGregor could be an influential replacement for Brown.

Gannon believes McGregor is well-suited to take over from Brown because of the Scotland international’s influence in the dressing room and his success so far.

Brown has been at Celtic since 2007, winning multiple trophies as the club’s captain as well. He has been one of the most successful Celtic captains in the club’s history.

Gannon believes that McGregor’s influence and success as a player in his career could be enough for him to succeed Brown.

He said: “It might be that someone on the books already, might be Callum McGregor. Different character, right enough, but equally successful, equally influential in the dressing room. He might go on to be that kind of guy.”

TIF Thoughts on McGregor replacing Brown…

While Brown has captained the Hoops for multiple years, McGregor has also been the club’s captain multiple times over the years, including donning the armband for the side this season.

It shows that while he has leadership required to lead the side, he has also won multiple trophies at Celtic already – like Brown has. And playing alongside the veteran might have helped him learn the trade as well.

So unless Celtic don’t sign another leader-like player, McGregor might be the ideal choice for the next permanent captain.
