Journalist John McGarry has recently provided an update regarding Celtic’s chase of Eddie Howe.

This came after McGarry appeared as a guest on The Celtic Huddle podcast and the panel talked about multiple issues involving the Parkhead-based club. Host Mark Wilson asked McGarry for updates regarding Celtic’s move for Howe and the journalist revealed that as things stand, the situation is not alarming at all for the Bhoys.

It was recently reported that Celtic have an agreement in principle to sign Howe as their next manager, but the Englishman has asked for certain assurances before he takes over. He wants Bournemouth sporting director Richard Hughes at Parkhead and Howe is keen on the role at Celtic (as per Irish Mirror).

Will Celtic sign Howe by next week?

McGarry revealed that he’s not surprised that talks have taken this much time and while Crystal Palace are interested in Howe, the Hoops have won his heart and mind.

The journalist stated: “I don’t think that there is any cause for alarm from the point of view of Celtic supporters. There has been an agreement in principle, albeit that no one has put pen to paper on it yet. Fundamentally, there are just discussions over what happens next, which job, which responsibilities.

“I’m not surprised that negotiations have taken this length of time given the summer of transition Eddie Howe is going to walk into. I know people have been talking about the Crystal Palace vacancy, there is no question that Eddie Howe is a manager that Crystal Palace are very interested in, it now looks almost certain that Roy Hodgson will leave in the summer, but it looks like Celtic have won the battle for hearts and minds.

“It’s down to the minor details.”

TIF Thoughts on Eddie Howe’s signature…

Football Insider had recently reported about a twist in the Eddie Howe saga, saying that the Hoops have fears about Palace potentially hijacking their move for the Englishman. The Eagles are in the market for a potential replacement for Roy Hodgson themselves.

Having said that, Celtic seem to know Howe’s demands now and if they meet them, the Hoops could have the ex-Bournemouth boss as their manager. So they should look to satisfy his demands quickly, as that would help them trump Palace as well.
