Journalist Stephen McGowan has recently given some updates about the situation of Odsonne Edouard.

Clyde Superscoreboard recently had McGowan as a guest and he was asked about multiple issues involving the Hoops by many callers.

One of the questions was about Celtic’s summer transfers and this led to McGowan talking about Edouard’s future. He believes that the Frenchman is a player who wants to leave and it is highly likely that he does depart in the summer.

Is there any chance of Edouard staying?

Edouard has found the back of the net 20 times in all competitions this season, picking up six assists as well. In the Premiership, he has scored 16 times, showing his importance to the Hoops (as per Transfermarkt).

McGowan believes that Leicester City might have fallen down in the pecking order as suitors for Edouard because of Kelechi Iheanacho’s form, but insisted other clubs do like him.

He said: “I think a lot of money is on Leicester for Edouard. It’s an interesting situation because I think people felt he’s going to replace Iheanacho who’s just banging them in, so he might stay.

“He’s got some interest from Italy, West Ham like him, Aston Villa like him, Arsenal like him, couple of Milan clubs like him. But I think he’ll certainly go. I don’t see any circumstances in which they can keep Odsonne Edouard because the player wants to go.”

TIF Thoughts on Edouard’s situation…

While Edouard’s goals do suggest that he is an important player for the Parkhead-based side, McGowan does believe that he does want to leave, which makes it important for the Bhoys to sell him before his contract runs down.

While he is currently valued at £13.5m, his contract expires next summer, and it could well be Celtic’s last chance of getting a good fee from his sale. If he doesn’t leave in the upcoming summer, Celtic would risk losing him for free.

However, considering his importance to the side and since PSG have a sell-on clause, the Hoops would have to get a sizeable fee from his sale to profit handsomely, so they may do well to get a financial haul that they would consider impressive.
