In a season in which Celtic have been left in a distant second place in the league standings by their Old Firm rivals, John Kennedy’s side had the opportunity to put a dent in their opponents’ hopes of securing a domestic double in the Scottish Cup on Sunday.
However, yet another lacklustre display by Celtic saw Steven Gerrard’s side comfortably progress to the next stage of the competition, with the 2-0 win for Rangers highlighting the difference in the quality between the two sides this season.
And in reaction to the loss, former Celtic striker Sutton took to Twitter, stating his belief that the Hoops have “too many players who don’t seem to want to be there”, as well as calling for a “massive overhaul” of the squad in the summer transfer window.
In response, fans of Celtic flocked to have their say on the matter, with many appearing to wholeheartedly agree with Sutton’s statement, stating that the Bhoys have been disgraceful over the course of this season.
Do you agree with Sutton's claim?
So, what exactly did these Celtic fans have to say in reaction to Chris Sutton’s tweet?
“Clear out required, struggling to compile a list of who I would keep from that squad of players. Shambles.”
“Big wake up call needed, Rangers will dominate Scottish football for the next couple of years, which hurts to say but that’s the truth. No hunger or commitment, shocking display from us.”
“Absolutely diabolical! They better have big announcements or they will suffer in season ticket renewals!”
“Chris that was just shocking today. Massive clearout needed ASAP.”
“Utterly gutless and spineless today. No one played for the emblem.”
“Big announcements needed tomorrow. The club is stale and the rot started with the decision to appoint Lennon. Kennedy showed today he has nothing different to offer.”
All in all, it would appear as if these Celtic fans are in complete agreement with Sutton that an overhaul at the club is needed this summer, and, considering just how poor the Parkhead side have been this season in comparison to their Glasgow rivals, it is not difficult to understand why.
